Down Payment Assistance
Community Development and Housing Division
The Community Development Division of the County Administrator’s office manages numerous development and housing programs, including the following which are funded under federal grants: HOME Investment Partnership, Emergency Shelter, Community Development Block Grant and Supportive Housing grants. In order to meet Tarrant County’s housing and community development needs, the Division has been able to create a variety of innovative programs with the support of federal funding agencies. For over twenty years, the Division has had a major impact on the infrastructure of Tarrant County’s low-income neighborhoods by conducting far-reaching public works programs. Additionally, parks, senior centers and handicapped facilities have been substantially improved across the area. The cities of Tarrant County cooperate through the Mayors’ Council of which the Community Development Division acts as the administrative arm.
Housing programs offered to Tarrant County residents include first time homebuyer assistance, home rehabilitation and the acquisitions and rehabilitation of low-income housing. To keep local residents involved on these important issues, the Division works together with several local, non-profit and community organizations. The Division also operates closely with the Tarrant County Housing Department in preparing and observing Section 8 rental assistance programs.
As a way to fight homelessness in Tarrant County, the Division maintains a number of local emergency shelters and administers a sophisticated transitional housing program through the area’s local providers. The division designs these programs in order to provide sanitary, secure and livable housing, with helpful services, to give the homeless individuals and families of Tarrant County every opportunity to break out of the cycle of homelessness.
Each year, the Division publishes a Consolidated Plan which includes demographic and community-wide data, as well as descriptions of the County’s housing and community development efforts.
